Alex Woo’s New ‘Chimpanzee’ Disney Jewelry

When Disney’s new movie Chimpanzee opens April 20, Alex Woo will have the perfect jewelry for fans. The New York City–based designer—and JCK Rock Star contestant—teamed up with Disney to make two eco-friendly (think recycled metals) Chimpanzee charms for Earth Day 2012.

Inspired by Oscar, the baby chimpanzee in the film, charms made in sterling silver or 14k gold feature the creature’s likeness on disc pendants with either a solid metal background or one with negative space, further accented with vine motifs. Twenty percent of net proceeds benefit the Jane Goodall Institute to help fund the organization’s “See Chimpanzee, Save Chimpanzees” program.

“The Jane Goodall Institute strives to respect, nourish, and protect all living things: people, animals and the environment,” Woo told the press. “In this design, I wanted to represent these goals, so each vine represents each of these three elements—people, animals, and the environment.”

Made in New York City, the pieces will range in price from $150 to $2,000 and will be available for purchase the first week of April.

Chimpanzee charms in sterling silver and 14k gold are inspired by the monkey in Disney’s new Chimpanzee film; $150–$2,000.
