The American Gem Society elected Louis Smith as the new president of the board during its annual Conclave in San Diego last month.
Smith is a certified gemologist and owner of Smithworks Fine Jewelry in Spartanburg, S.C. He will serve as president until April 2016.
“I’m very excited to assume the role of president,” Smith said in a statement. “We have a talented team at headquarters and a hardworking and dedicated board. With that combination and our membership, I’m looking forward to great things in the next two years.”
