A Veteran New York Jeweler Finally Opens His Dream Store

David Desso Fine Jewelers debuts in Cedarhurst, N.Y.

Southern Long Island can often feel more Brooklyn than Hamptons—a good or bad thing, depending on your outlook. But for a fine jeweler hunting for an affluent-but-underserved demographic, the region is a potential goldmine.

Veteran jeweler and gemologist David Ustaev is betting big on that potential—he’s launched a new store, David Desso Fine Jewelers, in Cedarhurst, N.Y., which stocks tony brands inclunding Ivanka Trump, Roberto Coin, Pandora, I. Reiss, Baraka, Alex Sepkus, Longines, Baume & Mercier, Montblanc, Movado, and Frederique Constant.

The retailer and gemologist who owned a small jewelry store in New York City in the 1990s, Ustaev has jewelry in his blood—his great grandfather traded gemstones throughout the Middle East and South Asia during the Silk Road era. And “for as long as I can remember, I had planned to trade precious stones and diamonds,” Ustaev told the 5 Towns Jewish Times

Now I finally have an opportunity to transition into a bigger and more appealing space and have a full-service jewelry store, with a jeweler and a watchmaker on site, for anything possible to be made upon request.”

The bright, airy store specializes in custom-made jewelry, in addition to repair services.

The store is a welcome addition to the largely residential area, which is often overshadowed by Long Island’s flashier towns up north. “There hasn’t been a fine jewelry or timepiece store catering to the south shore of Long Island in well over a decade now,” said watch and jewelry expert John Keil in a statement. “David has built an amazing space in a beautiful neighborhood that exceeds any and all expectations. His inviting demeanor and expertise of the product will make every client feel right at home and well taken care of.”
