A History of Pantone’s Color of the Year in Jewels

Did you know that Pantone’s annual declaration of its Color of the Year dates back to 2000?

After much deliberation among various nations’ color standards groups, a single hue is carefully chosen to represent the next year. It’s this announcement that influences fashion designers, retailers, marketers, and as we’ve seen, the color of jewelry seen on the red carpets and in real life (hello, emeralds!).

Let’s take a trip down memory lane, with jewelry, of course. We’ve rounded up 10 jewels for each Color of the Year for the past 14 years. You’ll reminisce over years gone by and witness how each color was carefully selected according to spirit of the times.

So go ahead – click each color icon to travel back in time with the years’ most popular shades.
