Jaguars, and birds, and serpents, oh my! And don’t forget turtles and fish too! It’s a veritable jungle in H.Stern’s latest jewelry collection, Ancient America. The just-arrived-in-stores line speaks to the pre–Columbian era belief of animism—the idea that spiritual beings exist in plants and animals. The theme inspired H.Stern designers to create a collection rich in animal likenesses and patterns: serpent styles coil around wrists and fingers; onyx and gold rectangular plates mimic the effect of fish scales; feathered gold wings of birds hover majestically on wearers. Meanwhile, onyx shelled Noble gold turtles are accented by cognac diamonds, and the jaguar’s spotted coat is re-created in rose gold with black and colorless pavé. Twenty-seven pieces in total are available in H.Stern boutiques and some partner stores. Retail prices start at $900—but can you really put a price on animal magnetism?
