A 9-Year-Old Finds 1.53 Carat Diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park

The white diamond was uncovered while wet-sifting

On July 23, a 9-year-old girl named Grace Houston found a 1.53 ct. diamond while wet-sifting at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Ark.

Houston, who lives in Missouri, wants to be a geologist when she grows up, and her family took her to the park as a treat. She was searching for stones with her grandmother when she found the diamond.

Houston plans to keep the stone in its natural state and rebuffed the suggestion that she save it for an engagement ring.

More than 75,000 diamonds have been discovered in the park since it first opened in 1906.
