A $1 Million+ Emerald-Cut Diamond Necklace From East Continental Gems

A big-ticket diamond necklace from East Continental Gems got a lot of attention at the Baselworld fair this year. It’s not hard to understand why: With 73.56 cts. t.w. emerald-cut diamonds in platinum with a detachable two-stone pendant, the piece is a showstopper for a bride-to-be or anyone else with the cash to add it to a private collection.

According to vice president Adam Mirzoeff, about 15 clients from the Middle East and Europe—plus one store owner from Texas—requested the piece on consignment. “Many of our clients felt that they had the clientele for a piece at this price point,” he says.

There are 41 stones in the necklace, with an average stone weight of about 1.80 ct. t.w.; the two rocks in the drop are the largest, with one weighing more than 8 cts. Colors range from J–L, and all are VS in clarity.

The piece was made in New York City, and is currently on display in a store in Switzerland. “We’ve designed similar pieces, using different shapes,” says Mirzoeff, adding that it takes finding just the right parcel to create the look. Expect to see the necklace (perhaps until it surfaces at an auction years down the road) in their booth at the LUXURY show at JCK Las Vegas. “We’ve gotten such a good reaction, I think it will be sold by the time Vegas ends,” he says.
