Legendary jewel thief Doris Payne allegedly stole a $33,000 diamond ring from a David Yurman store in North Carolina on July 11.
The police report describes the stolen ring as an “engagement ring with multiple small diamonds in a halo and a platinum band that goes over the ring in a crossover fashion.”
Payne is not listed as a suspect and has not been charged, but based on accounts from the David Yurman store manager and another local store manager who says she spotted Payne, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department sent an email to local jewelry stores warning them to be on the lookout for the 84-year-old jewel thief.
Payne has been implicated in dozens of jewelry thefts over the course of six decades. She was most recently arrested for trespassing at a San Francisco department store in February. The charges were dismissed, and she was released the next day.
