The triple-x cut diamond necklace
The Bonhams Fine Jewelry sale on June 22 in New York garnered $3.8 million, with $1.2 million of that going toward an important 79.2 ct. triple-x cut diamond necklace.
The necklace features 52 round brilliant-cut diamonds and a heart-shape clasp.
“This was one of many pieces in the auction that exemplified connoisseurship,” said Susan Abeles, director of fine jewelry for Bonhams U.S. “The necklace—which is similar to one that Beyoncé wore at the Oscars after-party—shows that round diamonds are storming back into fashion. This set of diamonds has a classical, timeless elegance that shines through.”
Colored stones also performed well at the sale, with an imperial topaz and diamond brooch going for $87,500, more than nine times its high estimate.
“Buyers know quality when they see it, and this auction shone with exquisite pieces that were fought over by bidders from around the world,” Abeles said.
