7 Jewels for the Most Luxurious Holiday Ever

‘Tis the season for, well, for a lot of things, as the holiday rush envelops us with each passing day (and each swipe of our credit cards). I don’t think it needs to be said, but I’ll say it anyway: The holiday season is about so much more than presents. At the end of the day, it’s less important that you got that perfect gift for your Secret Santa than is the time you dedicated to making memories with that person. Still, the perfect gift sure doesn’t hurt, and when it’s something as evergreen as jewelry, that’s as close to perfect as it gets.

Because jewelry—a really great, long-lasting piece of jewelry—has the power to carry those memories for as long as we have the ability to keep them alive. That cozy Christmas night may have been memorable all on its own, but the gift of an emerald ring to coincide (just as an example) will set that memory playing in the mind of whoever wears that gift, time and time again.

Joshua J sapphire and diamond earrings
Earrings in platinum with 5.44 cts. t.w. cushion-cut heated blue sapphires and 3.03 cts. t.w. diamonds, price on request; Joshua J. Fine Jewelry
Omi Prive orange yellow sapphire ring
Ring in platinum and 18k rose gold with 4.1 ct. oval yellow-orange sapphire, 0.21 ct. t.w. tapered baguette diamonds, and 0.8 ct. t.w. round brilliant diamonds, $35,000; Omi Privé

I have not been personally acquainted with the gift of über-high price-tag jewelry—the kind that requires an armored truck delivery (I know that exists, because I am acquainted with folks who have had the privilege). But when I’m feeling starry-eyed, I have this fantasy, set in a beautifully decorated home: a roaring fireplace and exquisitely decorated Christmas tree play supporting roles. Imagine a cross between those Mercedes-Benz commercials you see every holiday season (always an impeccable home, smiling family in some sort of cashmere winter wear, impervious to the cold and the softly falling snow), and basically every impossibly glamorous scene set by the annual Neiman Marcus catalog. Now add some jewelry.

And those jewels had better fit the part. Perhaps they will be delivered by a security team or maybe they’re just highly insured through FedEx—all that matters if that they make it to their designated place: in a velvet ribbon-wrapped box, nestled in among the ridiculous pile of presents for the kids that surround the tree (I’m not particularly proud of the blatant materialistic tones of this imagined Christmas morning, but if I’m gonna dream, I’d better do it big. Also, jewelry).

The little scene I’ve set may be kind of silly for me (only in the sense that it’s so utterly unrealistic), but I’ve no doubt that it resembles someone else’s reality. So when these kinds of shoppers do come a-calling, be ready with jewels like the ones here. They might just become a symbol of the best Christmas ever, to be loved and cherished, and passed down for generations to come.
