Emerald may no longer be designated Color of the Year, but as a precious gemstone, it’s guaranteed to be near the top of our wish lists no matter what the trendsetters say. As a May baby, I’ve had a somewhat odd relationship with the stone. The grass is always greener, so I often wished my birthstone had been instead aquamarine or peridot— something with a bright pop of color. Now that I’ve gotten older, I realize how lucky I am to call it my own. The stone is rich, and I love the inclusions and striations unlike any other stone that are so valued in emerald (ever hear someone say an included diamond has character? Didn’t think so). And the designs just keep getting better. Here are six new emerald designs to Marketplace that I certainly wouldn’t mind receiving for my birthday this year.
