5 Memorable Jewelry Looks From the 2018 American Music Awards

The jewelry might have been the mere frosting on the cake at last night’s 2018 American Music Awards—which featured powerhouse performances from Cardi B, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and others.

But it was some pretty fantastic frosting, folks.

The AMA’s red carpet was popping with eye-catching, eclectic jewelry looks worn by music’s biggest stars and a handful of Hollywood celebrities.

Show host Tracee Ellis Ross, who’s undeniably become a fashion icon in recent years, cycled through several costume changes over the course of the evening—but made her biggest jewelry statement in a chunky diamond choker from Jacob & Co. worn with shoulder-dusting Djula earrings on the red carpet before the show.

Cardi B borrowed bold gold jewels—and a voluminous floral gown—from Dolce & Gabbana, while Taylor Swift gussied up her spacey silver Balmain dress with simple (but decidedly large) hoop earrings from Ofira Jewels.

Here are my top five picks for best jewelry looks at last night’s American Music Awards:

Busy Phillips wore one-off green tourmaline crystal necklaces and earrings made by her good friend jeweler Irene Neuwirth. The boho look was a perfect fit, vibe-wise, for the anything-goes AMAs.

Cardi B wore a straight-off-the-runway floral gown and earrings from Dolce & Gabbana. The chunky earrings are, if you look closely, massive bejeweled insects.

Taylor Swift teamed Ofira Jewels rectangular hoops with her disco-ball silver dress from Balmain. I loved her whole ’60s vibe—winged black eyeliner, heavy bangs, thigh-high boots, and all.

Show host Tracee Ellis Ross wore a rotation of outfits last night, all from black designers (including Virgil Abloh, LavieByCk, and Shanel Campbell). Here she is in a cool Pyer Moss suit with a glitzy Jacob & Co. diamond choker and Djula earrings.

Electro-pop princess Dua Lipa wore a pretty, poufy Giambattista Valli white gown, simply accessorized with a pavé diamond Cartier Juste un Clou necklace—a design the brand debuted in the 1970s.
