36 Carat Emerald, Eydie Gormé Diamonds Headline Sotheby’s April Sale

Sotheby’s New York is gearing up for its annual big spring sale on April 29, in which it expects to achieve more than $37 million. Among the 450-plus lots on offer at Magnificent Jewels:

• The El Dorado Emerald, a 36.53 ct. emerald-cut Colombian emerald set in a platinum, 18k gold, and diamond ring (estimate: $1.8 million–$2.2 million).

• A collection of jewels from the estate of big-band/swing singer Eydie Gormé, nearly all of which were gifts from her husband (and onstage partner) Steve Lawrence: a 17.4 ct. Harry Winston platinum and diamond ring (estimate: $350,000–$450,000); a platinum and diamond ring set with a D-color, internally flawless 7.51 ct. marquise-shape stone (estimate: $350,000–$450,000); and a rivière-style platinum and diamond necklace (estimate: $250,000–$350,000), presented to Gormé for the couple’s 25th wedding anniversary.

• An exceptional platinum, sapphire, and diamond ring, designed by Oscar Heyman & Brothers, featuring a 28.18 ct. square emerald-cut Kashmir sapphire set in a tapered baguette diamond mounting. Sotheby’s calls the center stone “one of the finest Kashmir sapphires ever to appear at auction” (estimate: $4 million–$5 million).

• A magnificent fancy intense orangy-pink diamond ring with a 15.23 ct. cushion-cut diamond (estimate: $6 million–$7 million).

Beginning April 25, the jewels will be on view at the Sotheby’s galleries on York Avenue in Manhattan. The house will also be displaying selections from two other upcoming sales (Geneva’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels on May 13 and New York City’s Important Watches on June 10), as well as pieces from its Sotheby’s Diamonds retail collection.
