Two nights ago, my husband excitedly regaled me with the tale of a recent scientific discovery (while my eyes glazed over). I know, word of a cosmic collision is big, important news—not just for the scientific community, but for everyone. And yet, I never could seem to wrap my head around anything space-, star-, or planet-related (despite the fact that I love celestial jewelry: I’m an enigma).
Until, that is, the next morning, when I learned that the collision of the neutron stars revealed the birthplace of certain heavy elements: namely, gold, silver, and platinum. Okay, now I’m interested.
So here, in celebration of my newfound desire to learn more about the cosmos (and, yes, of what is first and foremost an important scientific study), I offer you some of the most fantastic finds in gold, silver, and platinum—the three most exciting elements of this monumental revealing.
Psst: I could never delve into this topic with proper authority, so you can read all about the neutron star collision here. When it comes to the jewelry made from these elements, however, I got this.
