24 Karat Club Set to Depart From the Waldorf Astoria

The group’s annual dinner has been held at the hotel since 1913

The 115th edition of the 24 Karat Club of New York City dinner promises to be a momentous one: It will be the last one held at the Waldorf Astoria New York (pictured) before it closes for three years of renovations.

The dinner has been held at the Waldorf Astoria since 1913, when the hotel was located near the Empire State Building. It is the second-oldest event still running at the hotel.

The hotel’s new owner, Beijing-based Anbang Insurance Group, reportedly plans to convert the famed property into luxury condos.

24 Karat Club president Myriam Gumuchian tells JCK that the group is actively scouting for a new location, but finding the right spot for the massive event has proven “an extremely challenging task.”

The 115th banquet will be held January 14, 2017. For the occasion, the group promises a “special entertainment announcement”—a seeming switch from its standard practice of withholding details of the entertainment until the last minute.
