215-ct. White Diamond Sold for $8.3 million

Gem Diamonds Ltd. said it and its partner, the Lesotho government, have sold a 215-ct. white diamond for $8.3 million to Omega Diamonds, according to news reports.

The diamond was recovered at the Letseng mine on Jan. 26, and was sold in Antwerp in a tender on Feb. 28. The 215-ct. diamond was sold with two other white D color flawless stones of 66 cts. and 54 cts., which sold for $1,2-million and $1,4-million respectively, according to news reports.

“The diamonds that Letseng produces form part of Lesotho’s unique heritage and, as such, we are extremely pleased that the market continues to appreciate them for their remarkable value,” Lesotho’s minister of Natural Resources, Monyane Moleleke, reportedly said.

The U.K. financial news service, AFX, and the Mining Weekly were the sources for this report.
