Jewelry for the 2019 College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six Bowls

Shinola Detrola Wolverine
Wolverine Detrola 43 mm watch with resin case and silicone strap, $395; Shinola

Ah, bowl season! The one time of year where my father actually eschews Fox News in favor of such festive fare as the Cheez-It Bowl and the Camping World Bowl. (Or my personal favorite—the Bahamas Bowl. It may be a lower-tier bowl game, but you can’t tell me that Charlotte and Buffalo weren’t happy to be playing in Nassau on Dec. 20.) In anticipation of the College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six bowl games, I’ve chased down some game day–appropriate jewelry to coordinate with your college colors. Personally, I’ll be cheering for Michigan when they take on Alabama in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1. And I’ve got my eye on this Shinola watch: the Wolverine Detrola. It’s even emblazoned with the school’s signature block M.

College Football Playoff

Peach Bowl: LSU vs. Oklahoma
Dec. 28, 4 p.m. (ESPN)

Oklahoma is a major underdog here, so Sooners fans might as well arm themselves with some kick-ass jewelry. I think these Brent Neale earrings will do quite nicely. Now, if No. 1 LSU wins it all—of course, there’s still the National Championship Game on Jan. 13 to contend with (the Peach Bowl winner plays the Fiesta Bowl winner)—Jane Taylor Jewelry should rechristen this purple and gold design the Geaux Tigers ring. Maybe the gravelly voiced Coach O should buy it for his wife. If he gets a championship ring, why shouldn’t she?

Brent Neale coral flower earrings
Wildflower and Clover bezel-set diamond drop earrings with natural coral in 18k yellow gold, $5,950; Brent Neale

Jane Taylor citrine amethyst ring
Cirque Banquine ring with 16.33 ct. emerald-cut lavender amethyst and 4.14 ct. t.w. German-cut golden citrines in 18k yellow gold, $9,460; Jane Taylor

Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State vs. Clemson
Dec. 28, 8 p.m. (ESPN)

This is how much I care about football-loving JCK readers. I even tracked down jewelry for (ugh!) Buckeye fans. And not a cheapo nut necklace or anything like that—elegant earrings by Bleecker & Prince! Moving on to defending champions Clemson: On the field I find their colors pretty garish, but these Tamara Comolli rings are bright and beautiful, and look perfect together.

New Year’s Six

Cotton Bowl: Penn State vs. Memphis
Dec. 28, noon (ESPN)

Penn State’s navy-and-white color scheme may not be the most exciting, but remember: White means diamonds. And hey, Memphis—sorry your coach left for Florida State. Perhaps you can console yourselves with these sweet little stud earrings.

Stephen Webster Vertigo bracelet
Vertigo Obtuse bracelet with dark blue enamel and 0.66 ct. t.w. white baguette diamonds and 0.75 ct. t.w. white diamond pavé in 18k white gold, $19,000; Stephen Webster

Eden Presley blue studs
Rectangle Tri Stud earrings with aquamarine, sapphires, and diamonds in 14k white gold, $1,400; Eden Presley

Orange Bowl: Virginia vs. Florida
Dec. 30, 8 p.m. (ESPN)

Two orange and blue teams facing off in the Orange Bowl; someone had to plan that. Lapis is a terrific match to Virginia’s official Jefferson Blue, and carnelian blends beautifully with the school’s Cavalier Orange. Meanwhile, wouldn’t your favorite University of Florida fan look fabulous doing the Gator Chomp with a chic vintage gator bangle?

Bounkit lapis carnelian bangle

Beladora gator bangle
Kieselstein-Cord alligator bangle in 18k green gold, circa 1980, $19,500; Beladora

Rose Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Oregon
Jan. 1, 5 p.m. (ESPN)

You’re wearing your Oregon Green shirt to cheer on the Ducks, so isn’t it a perfect time to buy yourself a pair of matching emerald earrings? Yes. Yes, it is. And because no trip to the Rose Bowl would be complete without a few blooms, we found a fab rose necklace. It’s even in Badger Red. On Wisconsin!

Modern Moghul Dhuti earrings
Dhuti earrings with teardrop cabochon emeralds, moonstones, and diamonds in gold vermeil and rhodium-plated sterling silver, $1,200; Modern Moghul

Les Nereides rose necklace
Beauty Like Beast multiple red roses necklace in resin and 14k gold–plated brass, $172; Les Néréides

Sugar Bowl: Baylor vs. Georgia
Jan. 1, 8:45 p.m. (ESPN)

Malachite is the perfect pick when you’re looking for something to go with your Baylor Green gear, and don’t forget yellow gold accents to match Baylor Gold. For you Georgia fans, when you have a mascot as cute as Uga, I think you have to pay tribute to him with some adorable bulldog jewelry. I know this design looks a little more like Tank—the barrel-chested cutie who won best in show at the 2019 National Dog Show—than Uga X, who’s all-white, but it still says, “Go Dawgs!”

Sorellina malachite guitar pick earrings
Small Guitar Pick earrings in malachite with diamonds and 18k yellow gold, $2,800; Sorellina
Dog Fever bulldog earrings
English Bulldog enameled earrings in sterling silver, €143 ($158); Dog Fever
