2006 Diva Design Competition call for entries

The Women’s Jewelry Association is accepting entries for its annual Diva Design Competition. The competition is open to all women, regardless of formal design training or jewelry industry employment, and offers cash prizes for original fine jewelry designs featuring precious metals and gemstones. This year’s theme is “Queen of Hearts.” Original renderings must be submitted no later than May 1, and will be judged by an independent panel of jewelry industry experts.

“The contest is an excellent way for an aspiring women jewelry designer to publicize her talents, whether she has formal training and experience or not,” said Ann Arnold, President, WJA. “And the resulting exposure can enable a previously unknown designer to launch her career.”

Each contestant may submit a maximum of two original renderings. The judges will only consider original color designs (no photos) drawn on all white or light gray background showing top and side views of the piece. Necklaces, pendants, bracelets, and earrings must be shown at the actual size. Rings may be shown up to 1.5 times larger. The rendering must be no larger than 8-in. by 11in. and must be mounted on an 11-in. by 14-in. black art board. The designs must have not won awards in other contests or Diva competitions. Prior WJA Diva winners are not eligible to participate. Designs may not exceed a retail price of $25,000 when manufactured.

The entry fee is $20 for one submission and $40 for two submissions. The first place winner will be awarded $2,500, second place $1,000, and third place $250. Winners will be notified in advance and announced at the WJA evening event on June 4 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, during The JCK Show ~ Las Vegas.
