Is it just me, or does our desire for all things dark and bold become stronger as the summer fades into fall? I know, I’m scaring you. Why is she talking about fall already? I haven’t even been to the beach yet! But you know as a retailer that with autumn on the horizon, it’s never too early to plan. As a matter of fact, you’ve probably already had a discussion about the holidays (gasp!). And, autumn is on its way. Back-to-school commercials have been airing like crazy, and American football is starting up in a few weeks (the games don’t count, but still!). Thoughts of what on earth to dress up for this Halloween are quickly flurrying through my mind, alongside a myriad of other things. Yes, it’s time. And if you ask me, it couldn’t come soon enough.
The beautiful thing about the fall transition is that we don’t jump right into the misery of winter, with its drab colors and melancholy cold. No, we do it with color. Golds and oranges and greens and plums. What the fashion world calls gem tones, we liken to gemstones like sapphire, tourmaline, garnet, and amethyst. Suddenly brown isn’t seen as only the hue of undesirable…things…but as a representation of the very desired season.

And even when winter arrives, the craving for something colorful to get through the season doesn’t wane. Colored gemstone jewelry is always in, be it the pastels of spring or the deep hues shared here. There’s never really a wrong time to stock up!
