17% of Shoppers Looking for Jewelry on Black Friday

While many jewelers don’t consider Black Friday a big day for their stores, a recent study by review site Retrevo found that 17 percent of consumers say they will be looking for deals on jewelry on the day after Thanksgiving.

Still, more shoppers will be looking for deals on shoes (41 percent), laptops (24 percent), HDTVs (20 percent), and non-iPad tablet computers (19 percent).

The study further predicts that the proliferation of deal sites like Groupon may hurt Black Friday shopping.

“It’s hard for today’s retailers to make their Black Friday deals stand out when shoppers have been getting significant discounts throughout the year,” said Manish Rathi, Retrevo.com’s co-founder and vice president of marketing, in a statement.

Meanwhile, it seems Black Friday may be coming earlier this year.

Both Macy’s and Target both announced their stores will kick off their Black Friday sales by opening at midnight on Friday, Nov. 25.

Among the Black Friday deals Macy’s is offering: ½-carat diamond studs in 14k white gold for $199.
