I went to a wedding in Atlanta last weekend, one of those most beautiful, romantic affairs I’ve ever attended. The bride was glowing in white, the bridesmaids in a sheer, light-as-air grey, with pops of yellow everywhere, from the centerpieces to flower petals scattered along the aisle and on the tables. This got me thinking about the transition from summer into fall. I’m not very good at the slow transition—Sept. 1 comes along and I’m instantly digging into the darker hues of fall: black, brown, wine, navy. But the thing is, it’s still so hot outside! We’re currently in the midst of an Indian summer, expecting autumn breezes to greet us when we step outside but instead encountering the foggy, humid warmth of August. The wedding this weekend, with its playful pops of sunny yellow, perfectly exemplified what it’s like to transition to a new season. A palette of darker, autumn-hued colors was played up by shimmering honey tones, gently leading us into the cooler months to come. So go ahead and tell your clients to break out their cold-weather colors, but pay homage to the warmth that soon will be leaving us with a healthy serving of yellow in their jewelry. The color is seasonless; it mimics the spring and summer sunshine, and adds warmth where it’s needed through the fall and into winter. And it’s just what we’re looking for this month. Here are 15 jewels to stock your cases with for the season.
