Trend No. 5: Gold

This year it isn’t just the winter Olympians who are out for gold. While yellow gold has and always will be a mainstay in the jewelry industry, it certainly comes in and out of favor—especially with a younger crowd. There was a time, not long ago, when my generation looked at yellow gold as something only our parents would wear, like, so totally 80’s and not very cool. It’s amazing how quickly things can change, especially when you see how very cool gold can be. Are we looking for marquise-cut diamond engagement rings in yellow gold? Maybe not (though never say never). But looks in fashion jewelry to the finest Italian gold chains and bangle bracelets, even rings, are on wanted lists in a big way. Just take a look at the recent runways: Leafy, golden belts tied nearly each piece from Zuhair Murad’s spring 2014 couture collection. Alexis Mabille sprinkled his ethereal, butterfly-laden show with lacy gold bracelets worn at the arm’s crease, and he even features an entire drapey ensemble in rich, metallic gold. Collar necklaces, belts, and shoes were given the gold treatment at Alexandre Vauthier. The runways were filled with an amazing mass of jewels—many of them, you got it, gold. And sure, maybe not everyone is inspired/obsessed with the runways like yours truly, but regardless, those influences trickle into our everyday lives, meaning even more demand is coming for those gold jewels. You’re likely stocked with an impressive assortment already, but here are just a few pieces you should consider grabbing before they’re gone.
