If you haven’t already read JCK senior editor Jennifer Heebner’s 12 Jewelry Trends for 2013 (what are you waiting for?), you’ve missed out on an extensive, detailed list of what to buy, sell, and stock in your store this year. And since you’ll likely want to scour the show floor for these top trends at this year’s JCK Las Vegas, I’m bringing you some of the best on-trend jewels our exhibiting brands have to offer, straight from JCK Marketplace.
Trend #6: Estate. My time spent in retail consisted of learning a whole lot about vintage and antique jewelry, knowledge I’ll always appreciate. I adore the little imperfections found in each handmade piece, the open culets of an old mine-cut or Euro-cut diamond (and learning to tell the difference between the two), the detail of filigree that no doubt was painstakingly created by a patient artist. I’m most drawn to Art Deco pieces: the clean lines; and my favorite combination of onyx, emerald, and diamond—a striking look altogether. With the upcoming release of The Great Gatsby (finally!), 1920s fashion and jewelry is poised for a big comeback (not that it wasn’t always fairly popular). My favorite era aside, you certainly have to admire and appreciate jewelry looks from every period. From Victorian to Edwardian and Art Nouveau, each has a distinctive look that makes it so fun to analyze where and when it came from. True vintage can at times be difficult to find and for contemporary jewelry stores that don’t specialize in estate, it’s lucky that many of today’s designers incorporate elements of days gone by into their products. I think now is the perfect time to start stocking up on those, no? From the vintage to the vintage-inspired, here are 10 of my favorites from JCK Marketplace.
