12 Jewelry Trends for 2013: Brass, Bronze, and Costume Jewelry From JCK Marketplace

If you haven’t already read JCK senior editor Jennifer Heebner’s 12 Jewelry Trends for 2013 (what are you waiting for?), you’ve missed out on an extensive, detailed list of what to buy, sell, and stock in your store this year. And since you’ll likely want to scour the show floor for these top trends at this year’s JCK Las Vegas, I’m bringing you some of the best on-trend jewels our exhibiting brands have to offer, straight from JCK Marketplace.

Trend #9: Well-made costume jewelry. I absolutely love costume jewelry. While purists may shun anything not made of precious metals and gemstones, I find a well-made costume piece endlessly versatile. And let’s be honest, the (typically) lower price and ease of wear allows shoppers to casually embrace new jewelry trends without having to make an investment in something that will likely not be so popular a year down the road (ahem, ear cuffs). Some of the most artful, eye-catching pieces are gold- or silver-plated, made from bronze, brass, even glass, leather, or rubber. Many antique and vintage pieces, if you’re lucky enough to find them, are also crafted in bronze or brass. Now, retail stores that once steered clear of costume are making room in their showcases for at least a handful of pieces. Not only that, but some brands known for their high-quality, high-price jewels are cranking out lower-priced, playful collections. But not all costume jewels come at a low price: Many have designer elements that merit their price tags in spades. Some of the most beautiful designer pieces are incredibly well-made in brass or bronze, and then gold- or silver-plated for added depth and shine. Here are 10 of my favorites, from the super trendy to the conversation starters that your shoppers will adore. Enjoy!
