I am unapologetically obsessed with denim. I’ve been known to be a repeat offender where my denim vest is concerned (we’re talking twice in a week), I can rock a Canadian tuxedo (that’s denim on denim) like no one’s business, and I have a chambray shirt in every shade, and to many people, that doesn’t even make sense. Maybe it’s paranoia that I’m not stylish enough that causes me to worry that I’ve worn one of my multiple jean jackets too many times in a week. Maybe it’s the fact that my husband calls me Jay Leno each time I don one (I don’t get it, either). But I was feeling mighty vindicated when I opened my November 2014 issue of Glamour magazine to find an article called “Big Blue,” combining denim upon denim and finishing it off with—the best part—blue jewels.
I love this look. I especially love the way dark denim pairs with a bold cabochon, like lapis, kyanite, or big, beautiful sapphires. The right jewel can instantly transform even the most basic look into something super chic. So if it’s in your shoppers’ genes to have an inclination for jeans (my only pun for the day, I swear), these are the jewels to stock. Truly, these would look great with any ensemble, but I’m taking full advantage of this moment to spotlight—and defend—my go-to uniform, okay?
