A 101 ct. L VS2 cushion cut came in on the low side of estimates by selling for $4.9 million at the Christie’s Oct. 22 auction in New York City.
The $49,100 a carat price is within its $4.25 million to $6.25 million estimate. The buyer was anonymous.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the sale was the $137,000 realized by a Black, Starr & Frost Art Deco fishbowl clock, against a presale estimate of $15,000.
Overall the sale sold 75 percent by lot and 77 percent by value, garnering $33.7 million in total.
