10 Oscar Winning Tweets From the Red Carpet

I can’t remember what a widely watched public television event like last night’s Academy Awards was like before Twitter.

I guess if you were with a bunch of friends at an Oscar party, you could have blurted your witty (read: snarky) comments out right away without having to remember them at the watercooler the next day. But that pales in comparison to sharing finely honed 140-character musings about Angelina Jolie’s right leg, while also tracking what the rest of humanity might think about the jewels Miss Piggy was sporting.

TweetReach tracked 2.05 million tweets about the Oscars, with the biggest spike at 18,718 tweets in one minute—which occurred during the during the Cirque du Soleil performance. This is up from last year’s Oscars, which generated 1.27 million tweets and a maximum spike of 11,780 tweets per minute.

While I’m an avid movie buff, it’s safe to say that I don’t know anything about fashion jewelry. But thanks to the jewelry fashionistas on Twitter, I didn’t have to.

Here are the nominees for best tweet from last night’s red carpet coverage:
