Turkish jewelry designer Aida Bergsen has a flair for the dramatic. Evident in wearable sculptures like leaf and thorn bracelets and snake-hugging tree-trunk pendants, among others, all feature oxidation to lend more intensity to the hand-carved silver styles. And her latest crop of headpieces is no exception: A slender, viney Medusa crown is slithering with snakes and berry sprigs of freshwater pearls, while a golden-leafed Flora tiara is stately enough to adorn Julius Caesar himself. My favorite, however, is the Wings tiara, featuring a pair of broad, metal-feathered extensions the tips of which hug the brow but never touch—a deliberate move that differentiates this piece from the typical bridged fronts and open backs of other tiaras.
Made in silver and gold leaf to lend an antique vibe, Bergsen maintains they are among her best sellers, and some versions even feature rose-cut diamonds and rubies. Many pieces now call Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Russia home, but there are more new ones available for adoption. Find Bergsen at the upcoming Couture show in Las Vegas later this month.
