Market Visit: New Temple St. Clair Jewelry

Jewelry designer Temple St. Clair, known for her
colorless crystal amulets in yellow gold, recently held a press day in her
Manhattan studio to reveal spring styles (check them out at LUXURY at JCK this year).

Among gem choices—not surprisingly—are blue moonstones, her
signature stone, as well as pink tourmaline and aquamarine, which are the
perfect complement to spring’s romantic clothes.

New looks for spring include Cabochon Locket pendants and
rings, and, Seven Offerings charms
inspired by Tibetan Buddhism, particularly Tibetan paintings and the designer’s
travels in northern India. Charms include the following design elements, for
earrings, bracelets, and pendants: pearls, shells, and coral branches in metal
(TSC doesn’t use coral), gold, crystal, and silver (represented by white gold).

Charms in the Sacred Offerings collection

Especially inspirational to Temple St. Clair is the sacred
offering of coral; brought to the Himalayas centuries ago by European traders
and explorers on their way to China, coral was an exotic material treasured by
the Tibetans.  “I continue to work with the Too Precious to Wear campaign
to promote coral conservation within the fashion industry,” she explains. “In
my Sacred Offerings collection, I have chosen to celebrate the mystical beauty
of coral through the detailed use of gold and remarkable colored gemstones—while
not using actual coral.”
