Britt’s Pick: Ana Cavalheiro’s Bouquet Pearl Pendant

Welcome to Britt’s Pick, a weekly feature on my blog, On Your Market. Each Tuesday, I’ll select an eye-catching piece from JCK Marketplace and tell you a bit about it. Of course, with jewels this beautiful, the pictures do most of the talking.

Ana Cavalheiro pearl bouquet pendant Leave it to jewelry designer Ana Cavalheiro to take a South Sea pearl and create something extraordinary. The 17 mm baroque pearl is topped by an oxidized sterling silver cap that is dotted with—what else?—rainbow moonstones. The end result is a very sea-like creation that inspires thoughts of faraway beaches and ocean breezes.

Says designer Ana Cavalheiro, “I love pearls—more than I like diamonds (my engagement ring had a pearl instead of a diamond). I always hear people saying how pearls are boring and predictable and like your grandma’s traditional jewelry, so I thought it would be kind of cool to have a really edgy collection with big baroque pearls. The idea was to create jewelry that granddaughters would want to steal from their grandmas’ jewelry boxes to wear now, because it’s fashionable and different. I love rainbow moonstones, and it just felt silly that I’d never thought of putting the two of them together, but sitting on the bench it just came naturally. The pearls are outrageously big, and since they are baroque they have very organic shapes and hues. This mixed with the oxidized silver and gold accents really appeals to me.”
