Jewelry Industry Comforts Boston Through Social Media

Boston native and JCK editorial assistant Stephanie Schaefer is guest blogging today.

One of the great things about this industry is that jewelry is symbolic of life’s happy moments: engagements, weddings, anniversaries.

Completing any life goal, especially a race as culturally important as the Boston Marathon, should also be a cause for celebration. Growing up outside of Boston, Patriot’s Day was always a happy moment for me. School vacation had just begun, flowers had started to bloom, and the April air finally made the city, which so often suffers through harsh winters, come alive again. I recall fond memories of driving into the city with my family to greet my uncle, a frequent runner of the marathon, at the finish line.

Unfortunately, for all those who were a part of yesterday’s race, the marathon experience has been tainted. But in times of tragedy, as America and the world knows so well of late, we gain strength from our unity. Yesterday, there were no Democrats or Republicans, East or West Coasters, Yankees fans or Red Sox fans. Yesterday, and for many more days to come, we were all Bostonians.

It is refreshing to see that there is still good in this society and in this industry. When news of the Boston bombings hit, jewelers from across the country once again took to social media to show their concern.

We send the people of Boston our sincere thoughts, especially to all of those suffering.
