Multiple Rings: Fashion Editors’ Single-Minded Inspiration

If fashionable consumers are looking for matched sets of rings, there is one designer who should be credited with popularizing this trend: Nicolas Ghesquière. The brass ring sets of Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière have been ubiquitous in fashion editorials this season. I identified in my last blog post one sighting of the ring set in the February 2013 issue of Elle. There are plenty more.

Editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey identifies the Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière brass ring set as one of her must-haves in the February 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Also selected is a Saint Laurent Paris tassel necklace.

“Welcome to Spring” beckons the March 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar with the opening photo of a cropped top and ruffled skirt from Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, pictured with the brass ring set.

The ring set appears on both hands of the model in this photo, also from the March Harper’s Bazaar. She also wears a delicate necklace from Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière. Her vest, top, and pants are by Lanvin.

The ring set along with the necklace are also featured prominently in this photo from the March Harper’s Bazaar. The model also wears a jacket, bustier, and pants from Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière.

Superstar Beyoncé puts more than one ring on it as she appears wearing Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière ring sets in this photograph from the March issue of Vogue. She also wears a Ralph Lauren Collection top and Jason Wu shorts.

In the April’s C California Style magazine, actress Jaime King wears a set of five Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière rings along with a pendant, top, skirt, and heels by the designer.

The April issue of Elle features the ring set on both hands of a model in a Louis Vuitton dress, a knit hat from Rike Feurstein, and mink sandals from Céline.

The Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière ring set appears on both hands of the model in this photo from the March Elle. She also wears a “golden brass” necklace by the designer, a vest and pants by Lanvin, a jacket from Haider Ackermann, a Calvin Klein Collection bustier, and boots from Marc Jacobs.

Here is the ring set again worn on both hands, pictured with a pendant necklace from Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, in another styling in March’s Elle. The model wears a sweater and skirt from Chloe, a Charvet shirt, and Marc Jacobs flats.

Also from the March issue of Elle, here’s the ring set with a ruffled top and pants from Gucci.

Here’s yet another look accessorized with the ring set worn on both hands, pictured in the March 2013 issue of Elle. The model wears a top and pants by Celine, a Haider Ackermann jacket around her waist, and a pendant necklace from Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière.

Finally, here’s an ad from Balenciaga that features a pendant necklace, a cropped top, and ruffles, along with a pair of the ring sets that inspired all the editorial fervor.

The ring set from Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière has a look editorially considered “just right” to accompany the fashions of the season, but it is not the only styling of multiple rings that is receiving editorial notice—which is good news for jewelry designers. More examples of multiple ring looks will follow in an upcoming post.
