Remembering Freddy Hager

Very sorry to hear of the sudden and shocking death of Freddy Hager, WFDB treasurer and long-time representative of the London Diamond Club.

I can’t remember how long ago I first met Freddy, but he was the kind of person you liked right off the bat. The gatherings of the diamond associations can sometimes be contentious and a little crazy. But it was always good to see Freddy, who stood out as an oasis of calm and warmth. He was the quintessential English gentleman; when he expressed his opinion, it was always well-thought-out, carefully phrased, and done politely, yet firmly. He was also a passionate defender of, and believer in, the industry, and put in great amounts of time on behalf of the bourse and the WFDB.

Hager once described William Goldberg, another industry leader sadly no longer with us, as a “special man.” And that would be the perfect description of Freddy as well. He will be very much missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
