L.A. Boutique Stocking Apple Watch Is One of Priciest in U.S.

Maxfield, the only non-Apple store in the U.S. so far confirmed to be carrying the company’s new watch, is a tony Los Angeles-area boutique once called the fifth most expensive store in America.

The store, which currently has the words “Apple Watch: coming soon” emblazoned on its homepage, was ranked the fifth most expensive store in the United States by Bundle.com in 2013, with credit card data showing shoppers spent an average $2,500 per visit.

Founded by Tommy Perse in the early 1970s, the boutique has drawn a noted celebrity clientele and is known for stocking upscale fashion, as well as pre-owned luxury goods. It has four locations—stores in Los Angeles and Malibu; a gallery in West Hollywood; and Maxfield Bleu, a “budget” store in Beverly Hills.

It did not answer a request from JCK on how it plans to sell the watch. But it seems a natural to sell the high-end Edition made of 18k gold.

The watch will also be available for preview beginning April 10 at Galeries Lafayette in Paris; Selfridges in London; and Isetan in Tokyo, where it’s reportedly opening a boutique. Other stores selling it: colette, Paris; Dover Street Market in London and Tokyo; and The Corner in Berlin.

Apple has engaged in negotiations with Nordstrom to sell its watch there, according to Reuters. However, a Nordstrom spokeswoman tells JCK she can’t confirm that and that the retailer will not be carrying the watch at launch.
