An adolescent Lego-loving David Alan Wegweiser admired architecture, but his mom’s jewelry business persuaded him to apply maker skills to wearable art instead. After studying philosophy and economics at university, Wegweiser sealed his fate with jewelry classes and apprenticed with a French jeweler to learn bench skills, sketching, and more. He debuted David Alan Jewelry in 2007, a culmination of a 20-year career as a custom jeweler, and ventured into wholesale this year at LUXURY 2015. His signature style: lean-looking modern classics—think horn and snake motifs—in 18k rose and 18k palladium white gold “I bring simple balanced lines to…wearable pieces that complement the body in unison with the materials used,” he says. Designs are made in his midtown Manhattan studio, where he sometimes uses CAD to bring pieces with diamonds—lots of diamonds—to life. “I work mostly with cognacs, grays, and vintage single cuts,” he says.
