JIS Announces Date Change for January 2019 Show

Jewelers International Showcase (JIS) announced this morning that it’s changed the dates of the JIS January show in Miami Beach, Fla., from the second week of January (Jan. 12–14) back to its traditional date slot—in the third week of January—which this year will be Jan. 19–21.

The JIS January show has historically taken place the third week of January, but was forced to move into the second week last year due to renovations of its venue, the Miami Beach Convention Center (which was seriously damaged in 2017 by a tropical storm and Hurricane Irma).

The switch back to its usual date pattern was widely requested by both vendors and buyers, according to JIS show organizers.

The January show is intentionally timed to provide retailers with an easy opportunity to restock and replenish for the new year and holidays including Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, following the busy fall holiday season. The move back to the third week of January gives retailers that extra time to regroup (and take a big breath!) after the holiday selling season before planning inventory buys for the new year.

JIS was founded in 1979 to supply the jewelry trade markets of Latin America, the Caribbean, Florida, and the southeastern United States with product in advance of the busiest buying times of the year.

The show has three Florida-based events during the year: January, April, and October. As of summer 2016, JIS expanded its collection of events, and its unique “at-show” delivery heritage, by joining Las Vegas Jewelry Week with JIS Exchange.

Over the years, JIS has become known for its robust mix of vendors and merchandise—which ranges from accessible jewelry in its sprawling cash- and-carry section to top-of-the-line equipment and high-end diamond, jewelry, and gemstone offerings available on order.

All JIS shows are now produced by Reed Exhibitions, which produces more than 500 events in 30 countries. Reed Exhibitions also owns JCK magazine and JCKonline.com.
