For the first time in seven years, I am going to miss JCK Las Vegas! I know there are a ton of folks who have been attending the show much longer than I, but in my relatively short time doing so, it feels like a big deal!
My reason for missing is a good one, though: Having just welcomed a baby girl in April, I’ve got another kind of gem to attend to. But I’ll miss it. Oh boy, will I miss the show.
I lament the missed opportunities to meet new people—particularly new designers, as that’s always my favorite part. I’ll miss spending time with my JCK family, as it’s not something I get to do often. I’ll miss the glittering rows of jewels and the special events, like the JCK Talks sessions (I enjoy watching my industry colleagues command a stage—something I’ll never be able to do) and privately organized get-togethers like dinners with friends new and old. I’ll miss saying good-bye to Mandalay Bay, which has been a wonderful home to JCK for the last seven years. Hell, I’ll even miss the desert heat of Las Vegas.
Thanks to the online world, though, I won’t miss it all. I’ve been privileged to work with brands and designers exhibiting at the show, lending me (and you) a sneak peek at what will be on display. And I know that I need look no further than Instagram to get a front-row seat to what everyone is discovering during their time there (I can’t wait to see what the most-talked-about jewels of the show will be).
