New jewels highlight some of the earthy and lovely finds in the Brazilian rainforest
If you didn’t know that Brazilian jewelry designer Carla Amorim had a retreat in the Amazon rain forest, her new Forest collection might give you a clue. Just unveiled at Baselworld 2016, Forest offerings—with retail prices in 18k gold starting at $1,600—include homages to objects that are commonly found in lush environs: Think ferns, fruit, foliage, and fish, among others. When Amorim escapes big city life in Brazil, these verdant natural finds populate the landscape of her family’s remote lodge in Marabá, so it’s not too surprising that they’re now appearing in her new work. One missing motif: crocodiles. “We roast them,” explains Kelly Amorim, Carla’s sister and sales agent.
