EGL USA’s spokesperson promotes gems on TV

EGL USA’s Senior Gemologist and spokesperson Sharrie Woodring, FGA, GG, appeared during the summer on two local New York City television shows to talk about the gemological aspects of today’s popular colored gemstones. Woodring was a guest on both the WNBC Weekend Today in New York and WABC’s Eyewitness News.

Woodring displayed a variety of affordable colored stone jewelry pieces that reflected “hot” summer fashion colors, such as pink tourmaline, coral, peridot, and citrine. A showstopper was a rare 15-ct. fancy yellow diamond ring from Codiam.

“One of my goals of appearing on TV was to convey the excitement that I feel about gemstones,” Woodring said. “Most jewelry publicity focuses on design trends. That’s important, but a gemstone is often the life of a design, so I wanted to talk about the unique features, rarity and what defines quality in these timeless minerals.”

Woodring is also quoted in a recent Associated Press wire service story on fall fashions, in which she discusses the increased interest in fancy and unique shaped diamonds.

A self-confessed “rock hound,” Woodring’s interest in gemstones began as a child. She received her Graduate Gemologist degree from GIA in 1998, and in 2001 she passed the diploma exam for the gemology program from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. She joined EGL USA in 1998 and has worked as a diamond grader and manager of jewelry services, as well as media spokesperson.
