Wal-Mart brought back its greeters earlier this year
J.C. Penney is experimenting with employees greeting customers at the store entrance, a practice generally associated with Wal-Mart, according to a report in the New York Post.
The “greeters are already full-time employees who are being redeployed to front-of-the-store duty” for its noon to 2 p.m. “power hours,” the newspaper said.
It added the company views this as a test that is so far limited to the Northeast.
However, some employees don’t like the idea, because it means longer lines at the cash register, the report said.
Wal-Mart eliminated its store greeters—long a signature—in 2012, then brought them back earlier this year.
