Lunt Silversmiths, a venerable flatware and tableware manufacturer that also produced silver jewelry, filed for Chapter 11 in mid-December and is selling its assets. Reed and Barton, a Massachusetts company that also manufactures flatware, was listed as “proposed purchaser” of the company.

Lazare Kaplan, in an SEC filing, said that Antwerp Diamond Bank hopes to terminate two of its credit facilities. It hopes to resolve the issue “amicably.” The company also recently received $28 million from underwriters.

IN COURT

Hector Rivera was recently convicted of leading a robbery and extortion crew involved in robberies connected to the Diamond District in midtown Manhattan, including the planned hijacking of Federal Express tractor-trailer trucks and the robbery of a wholesale diamond business.

Norman Schonfeld, a diamond dealer convicted of taking more than $6 million in diamonds from almost a dozen wholesalers, had his jail sentence reduced to 8½ to 17 years by an appellate court decision, according to a local news report. He could get out of prison in 2011.

The Gemological Institute of America will relocate its New York lab to Extell’s International Gem Tower, it announced, from 580 Fifth Ave.

EVENTS

The inaugural StyleWeek Providence, celebrating New England’s long-standing and influential role in fashion and design, will be held June 6–11, 2010. It will feature fashion shows and other events at some of Providence’s premier venues and will showcase new talent in fashion, accessories, and jewelry design.

JCK Las Vegas‘s 2011 show, the first to be held at Mandalay Bay, is 92 percent sold out, organizers say. This year’s JCK Las Vegas, the final show at the Venetian, takes place June 4–7.

BOOKS

Eden Rachminov, managing owner of Rachminov Diamonds, has published The Fancy Color Diamond Book, described as a combination practical manual and coffee-table book. Proceeds will be donated to the International Save the Children Alliance.
