Jewelers Weigh In on Madison Beer’s “Massive” Cushion-Cut Engagement Ring

Pop singer Madison Beer’s engagement ring from NFL quarterback Justin Herbert has the power to become the next celebrity trend, with jewelry experts noting that the diamond solitaire may be an impressive 10 to 15 carats.

The “Make You Mine” singer posted the proposal photos Tuesday on her Instagram account where her 39.5 million followers gushed over the ring. It is hard to see in the images, but it seems the Los Angeles Chargers player proposed to Beer with an elongated cushion-cut diamond.

“Get the Look” emails started rolling in quickly after her post, and media hot takes soon followed. For example, Something About Rocks said while the ring’s image in Beer’s Instagram post was blurry, it is “clearly enormous” and guessed its estimated value of more than $1 million. And, in classic New York Post style, the paper described the ring as “massive.”

Blue Nile’s vice president and president of The Clear Cut Olivia Landau puts the ring value somewhere between $300,000 and $700,000.

“Madison is giving us just a small taste of what her ring looks like, but my inkling based on the photos is that this is an elongated cushion-cut diamond. Specifically, the rounded corners make me think it’s a cushion cut rather than a radiant cut,” Landau said in a statement. “The stone appears to have a long ratio, possibly around 1.6 or even longer, and I would estimate it to be roughly 5 to 7 carats.”

Laudau also said the Beer-Herbert ring looks like a north-south-east-west compass prong setting, which she called “a modern twist on a classic, timeless design.”

Beer and Herbert started dating in 2025 and the quarterback has been in at least one of her music videos. While she may not be anywhere near as big as Taylor Swift, Beer has been slowly moving up the jewelry ranks, getting attention from diamond experts for wearing natural diamond drop earrings at the 2026 Grammys. Her newest album is even titled locket.

Oliver Hobert, a jewelry expert and creative director at jeweler 925E, estimated the central stone at somewhere between 8 to 10 carats, “a genuinely substantial size.” He said in a statement that he thought at first Beer’s diamond could be an emerald cut.

“Emerald cuts are flat, step-cut stones built for a calm, mirror-like flash. This stone is throwing far more sparkle than that,” Hobert said. “A radiant cut takes the same elongated rectangular outline but cuts the facets underneath differently to bring in the fire you’d normally get from a round stone. You can see it catching light along almost the full length of the stone rather than in one central flash.”

Hobert added that radiant cuts have become one of the most popular choices for engagement rings over the past few years, worn by the likes of Hailey Bieber and Ariana Grande, so this isn’t an obscure pick on Herbert’s part.

“It sits in a real sweet spot: the elongated, elegant silhouette of an emerald cut, with significantly more brilliance and sparkle. That combination is exactly why it’s had such a moment,” he said.

As for the setting, Hobert said the band appears to be a plain or very finely set shank in a white metal, most likely platinum, with no visible halo. He noted that all the design and budget has gone into the stone itself rather than the surrounding setting.

Neil Dutta, managing director at Angelic Diamonds, said he appreciates the ring’s simplicity and estimates the diamond at between 10 and 12 carats, adding that the elongated cushion-cut diamond could be worth around $1 million because of its rarity.

“While many celebrity engagement rings feature multiple diamonds or elaborate settings, this ring takes the opposite approach. Set on a simple yellow gold band, this allows the ring to do all of the talking while creating the illusion of the diamond being even bigger than it is, without the distraction of additional stones,” Dutta said in a statement.

“Minimalist engagement rings with exceptional center stones continue to dominate celebrity proposals. Rather than relying on intricate designs, they’re all about showcasing the quality and rarity of a single diamond, and this ring does exactly that,” Dutta said.
