GSI Holds Colored Gem Master Class
Grading lab Gemological Science International (GSI) recently collaborated with Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC, a government-backed technology and facilitation center for India’s gem and jewelry industries, to hold a master class on gem identification.
Designed specifically for industry professionals seeking to deepen their expertise in colored gems, the course covered stone identification; distinguishing between natural gemstones, simulants, and synthetics; advanced treatments; factors influencing geographic origin; and value determination. The class was taught by GSI’s experienced instructors, and provided participants with the most current and precise geomological information available, GSI said.
“The rise in demand for colored gemstones is rapidly emerging as one of the most significant trends in the global jewelry market, and India is at the center of this shift,” said Ravi Menon, CEO of Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC, in a statement. “Together [with GSI], we are raising the standard of gemstone education in India and empowering professionals with high-quality, expert training that will make a meaningful impact in the market. The response to this program has been overwhelming and reinforces our belief that this is just the beginning of an exciting transformation.”
