The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) is promoting World Diamond Day on April 8 as a time for industry unity and for jewelers to share the beauty and lore of natural diamonds with consumers.
In a March 24 statement NDC called the inaugural event a “soft launch” for building industry momentum and participation by businesses throughout the diamond manufacturing, processing, marketing, and retail channels.
“Now more than ever, the power of the natural diamond industry lies in its ability to come together with a unified voice,” the council’s CEO, Amber Pepper, tells JCK.
“World Diamond Day represents a rare and meaningful moment, one that no other category can so authentically galvanize,” Pepper says. “In a time of global uncertainty, the values that natural diamonds embody—authenticity, human connection, and enduring meaning—resonate more deeply than ever.”
Under the motto “One day to celebrate natural diamonds, together,” the NDC is asking jewelers to post images and stories of natural diamonds on social media on April 8, and to include the World Diamond Day logo and hashtags #NaturalDiamonds and #WorldDiamondDay.
“This is an industry movement powered by your user-generated content. We invite you to amplify the impact and share your own natural diamond stories and imagery from across the diamond world,” the NDC said in a statement.
For World Diamond Day content, the NDC suggests diamond-centric moments such as engagements, anniversaries, and heirloom transitions. It also seeks imagery and posts related to diamonds’ journey from mine to market, and about diamond mining’s positive impact on education, conservation, and communities worldwide. In addition, designers are encouraged to post about their creations, to highlight diamond craftmanship.
World Diamond Day was conceived last year by the World Diamond Heritage Board (WDHB), which transferred oversight of the day to the NDC. The WDHB has described World Diamond Day on LinkedIn as “the activation of a collective voice—one day each year when an entire industry pauses, aligns, and speaks with intention.”
April was chosen for World Diamond Day because diamond is the month’s birthstone, explains WDHB founding member Nicolas Chrétien. The number 8 holds deep meaning across cultures, representing balance, harmony, and perfection, he adds. Also, Chrétien notes, when turned sideways, the number 8 becomes the symbol of infinity—reflecting the idea that a diamond is forever.
“There is no heritage without a date to remember. April 8 is that date,” Chrétien tells JCK.
Through the WDHB’s efforts and a campaign it prepared, World Diamond Day has supporters in 40 countries and an estimated 3.6 million potential followers, says Chrétien.
“We are proud of our journey and of what has been achieved. World Diamond Day has now found its natural home under the leadership of its new CEO, Amber Pepper. Our decision to pass on World Diamond Day to the NDC is, above all, a gesture in service of the natural diamond industry, one that places the Natural Diamond Council at the center of a shared initiative designed to unite the industry around a simple and powerful idea,” he wrote on LinkedIn.
“On the WDHB side, we will continue to develop meaningful initiatives for the benefit of the natural diamond industry,” Chrétien posted. “Now let us all come together behind the Natural Diamond Council to make the first edition of World Diamond Day a great success. One Day. One Voice. One united industry.”
