Britt’s Pick: Kimberly McDonald’s Quartz Cuff Bracelet

Share

Statement bracelets are trending once again, from artfully piled bangles to wide cuffs. This striking new cuff bracelet by New York’s Kimberly McDonald embodies the power-jewelry vibe of the season, with the designer’s signature blend of earthy and elegant.

Organic meets architectural as a domed surface of translucent quartz provides a soft backdrop for geometric motifs—triangular arrangements of pavé sapphires and diamonds. The carved quartz crystal, while subtle in a way that allows the colored gemstones to pop, might be the biggest statement of all for its sheer size, though its airy, almost liquid look keeps it from feeling too heavy or overpowering. Each bold triangle—in Ceylon and hot pink sapphires, yellow and white diamonds, or emeralds—is framed in black diamonds, which stand out against both the colored gemstones and crystal.

“This piece was such a fun opportunity to bring bold color into the sleek, high-polished clarity of quartz,” says McDonald. “I especially love the black diamond outline—it takes me back to how I used to color as a child, always outlining everything with a black crayon because it made every shade pop. That same feeling of contrast and vibrancy lives in this cuff.”

Tie it all up in a setting of 18k yellow gold, and the cuff has an altogether ’70s vibe: expressive, chunky, and bold. Yet it’s modern luxury at its finest, and while surely a hero piece for the holidays, with its talismanic energy and translucent material, this bracelet is a jewel for anytime, anywhere.
