Jennifer Dawes Makes Bubbles With Pendant for Napa Winery

Share

California jeweler Jennifer Dawes has partnered with Schramsberg Vineyards on a special jewel commissioned by the Napa Valley winery to mark its 60th anniversary.

Dawes reimagined a vintage swizzle stick for the Dazzler, a pendant that jewelry fanatics would favor but that’s also functional—it was designed to gently mix champagne-based cocktails without knocking out the bubbles.

“I was approached by the owner of Schramsberg to design a commemorative necklace that was modeled after the Tiffany pendants that were also champagne whisks, made in the 1920s,” Dawes tells JCK.

“After much research and development, I created a piece that used the crest shape of the Jennifer Dawes Design label and a frame that could be deployed down a rod to extend the pendant. The frame acts as a whisk, and as you spin it, it creates an effervescence in your glass of bubbly.” You can see the piece in action, and see its visual appeal, on Dawes’ Instagram.

Available in sterling silver or 14k gold and set with 60 diamonds (to commemorate Schramsberg’s 60 years), the Dazzler pays homage to barware of past eras, particularly midcentury, when swizzle sticks and other bar supplies were bejeweled or themed. A version without diamonds lining the frame is also available, though every Dazzler features a larger, briolette-cut diamond at the tip of the stick.

That diamond, shaped as a shield, has been faceted to look like the diamond in a graphic. Its presence amplifies the luxury factor—there’s no chicer way to drink a glass of bubbly than this, and that alone is worth celebrating.

For Dawes, a resident of Northern California wine country and Schramsberg wine club member, the Dazzler feels personal. Schramsberg is an all-time favorite winemaker of hers, she says.

The Dazzler, created for Schramsberg Vineyards, also comes in sterling silver ($1,163).

“I love this piece because, to me, it’s about the art of celebrating—just opening a bottle of bubbly is a relevatory act,” says Dawes. “Taking a moment to look someone in the eyes, acknowledge something that has meaning, and clink your glass in intention elevates the moment. These moments that we take to be present and aware puts us in a state where we can only feel joy. And this is the most important place to be right now.”

The Dazzler will make its official debut at the Schramsberg holiday shopping party this Saturday and will then be available for purchase on the vineyard’s website.
