Despite Rising Prices, These Jewelers Are Still Going For Gold

Share

“Gold prices are killing me!”

Those were the words uttered—verbatim—by several jewelry designers JCK spoke to recently. And yet, that doesn’t seem to be stopping many brands from crafting with gold—including many luxuriously hefty pieces—and it hasn’t stopped their customers from buying it.

“While the increase in gold pricing has been shocking to our industry, we have not seen clients pull back from purchasing our pieces,” says Corina Madilian of Single Stone. “Our client is a collector looking to invest in jewelry that is well-crafted, and they appreciate our work and the weight of our designs. While we have never compromised the quality of our work based on the fluctuations of the market, what we have done in times of uncertainty is offer our clients a selection of pieces that are heirloom-quality at a range of prices.”

Jewelers are continuing to dish out the most resplendent gold jewels you can find: From bold chunky link necklaces and bracelets to artfully carved animals and icons, there is no shortage of treasures for those who can afford the splurge.

While cognizant of the rising prices, many jewelers, like Ashley Zhang, echo the sentiment of quality and equate the value of gold to the value of long-lasting, investment-worthy jewels; yet they also are understanding of those consumers who feel the crush of increased costs. “It’s unfortunate that gold has been rising so rapidly, but we don’t predict it stopping any time soon, and historically gold does not have large drops in pricing,” Zhang tells JCK. “Gold is and always has been an investment. We founded the brand on the mission to design items that feel timeless and of heirloom quality. Jewelry is sentimental and often used as mile markers or celebration items—we don’t think this will change. We will focus on how to make items lighter weight and more affordable as prices rise to have options in multiple price ranges.”
