The joy I feel when discovering that Pinterest has released its most recent trend report is like a kid on Christmas morning. I’m so delighted to unwrap what potential styles await us, and I know many of them will be true. Pinterest predicted butter yellow, dopamine dressing, and other recent notable aesthetics—so I really do have trust in this report as a jumping-off point for the season ahead, and I think retailers can take a cue from it as well.
It’s not magic: Pinterest uses data from its users to analyze major increases in any particular keywords and search terms, so the report isn’t made out of just environmental observations like fashion runways and TikTok trends. In this way, I think Pinterest has a leg up on other social platforms in knowing what audiences want. Simply put, I’m obsessed.
Here are some of the predicted trends from Pinterest that should matter to retailers this fall.
According to the report, Gen Z is driving a major shift toward sustainable shopping and thrifting, which bodes well for vintage and estate jewelers—what ages better than fine jewelry? The thrill of the hunt is also at play, with users searching for dream thrift finds, as well as vintage fall aesthetic and men thrift outfits. In response, Pinterest has introduced a limited-time Thrift Shop with weekly closet drops from vintage and thrift stores; it will run through Sept. 26 (jewelry and engagement rings are a part of the Thrift Shop!).
Gen Z appears more interested than ever in vintage watches, with searches up for phrases such as analogue watch, vintage brown watch, vintage luxury watch, and vintage digital watches.
Classic prep style also appears to be making a comeback—so get your pearl stud earrings ready—with terms including 2000s preppy aesthetic and vintage preppy outfits making a big jump as well.
The brown we’ve loved this year doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, but for fall, it’s caffeinated: Searches for coffee brown pants outfit and espresso martini outfit are up, and I’m betting big on gold jewels and even some brown gemstones to complete the looks.
There looks to be an art deco revival in decor, and I don’t need to tell you how major art deco is in jewelry—so a crossover wouldn’t be at all surprising.
Apparently, Gen Z is looking to chop it all off, as searches for pixie cuts are up big time. Know what short hair begs for? Big earrings.
