Anoop Mehta, managing director of Mohit Diamonds and president of the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai, has been named chairman and independent director of the International Gemological Institute (IGI), the publicly traded grading lab.
His appointment is subject to shareholder approval.
Mehta is a 50-year veteran of the industry. He currently serves on the executive committee of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses as well as the committee of administration of Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
In 2023, GJEPC honored Mehta with its Lifetime Achievement Award, in part for his work developing the Bharat Diamond Bourse.
GJEPC chairman Kirit Bhansali said in a statement, “I extend my heartiest congratulations to Mr. Anoop Mehta on his new role as chairman of IGI. I am confident that his extensive experience and strong leadership will steer IGI to a successful and innovative future.”
