Kohl’s Names CEO, Chief Merchandising Officer

Share

Kohl’s Corporation recently appointed Tom Kingsbury (pictured) its permanent CEO, and Nick Jones its chief merchandising and digital officer.

Kingsbury has served as the retailer’s interim CEO since Dec. 2, replacing Michelle Gass. He’d previously headed Burlington Stores as president and CEO, and prior to that, he worked as a senior executive vice president of Kohl’s. Gass had been Kohl’s CEO since 2018 but left to join Levi Strauss.

Kingsbury has been a Kohl’s board member since 2021. He was nominated as a director by a slate of activist investors, after they made a deal with the company following a campaign to win control of the board.

Jones, in his new role as chief merchandising and digital officer, will be responsible for Kohl’s digital and omnichannel merchandising, product design and development, and product portfolio strategy. According to a statement, his goals include developing “a compelling offering of national and proprietary brands.”

A 25-year retail veteran, Jones most recently served as CEO of Joules Group, the premium British lifestyle company. He has also worked as chief merchant for Asda/Walmart U.K., where his duties included overseeing the George fashion label, and at Marks & Spencer.

Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl’s has 1,160 stores.
